Most people feel a strong dislike for waste - images which depict waste on a massive scale are therefore likely to be more effective than individualising wasteful behaviour, and may help to connect individual actions (e.g. buying a television) to wider consequences.
WHAT IT SHOWS: Beribad, Dhaka, Bangladesh. People exposed to poverty that are working in the plastic waste industry. This picture is from a plastic processing plant. The woman in the picture is a worker who collect plastics of all kinds from general waste and then separates it out. Later on, the separated waste plastic is processed into raw plastic. The labourers are extremely poor, they get paid on a daily wage at this job which means that the financial stability is low.
